What class do I recommend for you?
Let's talk about the options.
If you have no sewing experience or haven't sewn since 7th grade home economics class, you should start with one of my Kids or Adults Foundation Beginner 4-week sessions.
I offer this class for kids ages 8 and older and adults ages 15 and older.
Teens can choose which age group they feel most comfortable in.
In the first class, you'll learn (or be reminded of) the basic functions of a sewing machine. You'll learn how to thread the machine, make and load a bobbin, try the different functions and settings, sew a straight line, turn corners, and more. We'll also touch on a bit of hand sewing.
Each week we will create one of 4 different projects.
Week 1 - a pillow
Week 2 - a bag
Week 3 - a zippered pouch
Week 4 - pajama pants or shorts
These courses are limited to 4 students. Sign up quickly - they fill fast!
The classes will meet for 2.5 hours weekly, for 4 weeks.
This class is also a prerequisite for all of my other classes offered unless you have prior sewing experience.
After the Intro to Machine class, you can do several different things.
Some need more guidance, others are confident to move on to more difficult projects like Open Workshops or "Fun Skill Building Classes".
Open workshops are to work on whatever you'd like!
-A one-time group class where you get to work on what you want to work on!
-You'll have my assistance just as if you were enrolled in one of my other classes.
-You'll get to meet other awesomely creative sewers who are also doing their own thing.
-How you go about choosing a project is up to you!
Bring one or several projects from home that you're stuck on so you can get unstuck.
You can sign up for as many of these classes as you'd like and work on one big project from start to finish, or one time just for a little help.
You can sign up and just use the time to sew out of your house (though I'm always here to help if you need it!)
-You must have some sewing machine experience to attend this class (You must know how to thread a machine, make and load a bobbin, and sew a straight line).
The class is limited to 3 people, so there will be enough of me to go around.
I prefer that you bring your own machine for this class if you have one.
I'll have my cutting and ironing table available for use as well as all of the tools you could need.
Fun Skill Building Classes are one (or sometimes two) classes to work on a specific project that I'm offering. I've offered projects like Summer Tote Bag and Wet Bag with Zipper. For these classes, you'll be required to purchase your own materials for the class (sometimes I'll offer to shop, but I'm sure most prefer to choose colors and designs for themselves). I offer projects that are fun, and useful and always learn new sewing skills as well as reinforce things you learned in the foundation classes.
I'm always open to suggestions for something that inspires YOU! It will likely be of interest to others as well.
If you prefer a one-on-one class, I also offer Private Lessons. We can work on anything you'd like during this 2-hour class. You can sign up once, or several times. Whatever you'd like.
I also offer FUNdamental Summer Camps and occasionally fun workshops on no school days and vacations. These are for kids 8+ who have taken the foundation sessions. We'll work on fun and easy projects for a few hours for one or many days. I will supply all materials and supplies for these classes.
I hope this helps with your decision. If you still have questions, please always feel free to contact me. I'm happy to help with anything I can.
Thanks!
Hope to sew with you soon!
Michelle
